Catan: Explorers & Pirates is an expansion for Catan, the classic board game by Klaus Teuber. You'll need the base game of Catan to play this expansion. Inside you'll find five scenarios and three missions. You can combine these, or mix and match them up. Explorers & Pirates takes the base game of Catan in a new, different direction... literally! The core mechanisms remain from the base game - you still roll two dice for resources. But there's a lot of changes. The island's a different shape, for starters. And, there's no cities in Explorers & Pirates. Instead, you can build port settlements on the edge of Catan. From here you can build ships that sail off into the mysterious waters! Who's going to navigate the ship? Sailors! That's right, you can 'build' sailors and new settlers to explore the open ocean. The rulebook explains a bunch of different scenarios, all with suggested starting layouts. New hex tiles (both water and land) come in this expansion. You place them out in a fashion where you'll sail off to settle new islands. The land begins the game face-down (undiscovered). Once you sail to it, the tile flips, where it'll be one of the terrain hexes. Transported a settler here? It becomes a settlement on this new island! Some of the hexes could be pirate lairs. Instead to settlers, you could transport sailors, who fight these pirates. Many sailors overwhelm the pirate lair, and then that hex becomes a safe location. It generates gold for adjacent settlements. Talking of gold: if you roll dice and get nothing, you get one gold instead. You can trade in two gold for any resource - hooray!Conquer pirate lairs you could earn yourself Pirate Scourge token, which is worth 1VP. The game is still a race to earn the most points. You can establish this end-game threshold depending on which scenarios you play. There's also a Fish For Catan module, and a Spices For Catan one, too. These are pick-up-and-deliver mechanisms. Who will deliver the most resources back to Catan's guildhouse? You can introduce these modules one at a time, or hurl them all together. There's so many new strategies to take in Catan: Explorers & Pirates... Player Count: 2-4 PlayersTime: 90-120 minutesAge: 12+
The Catan: Explorers & Pirates 5-6 Player Extension delivers what it says on the tin! Considering there's elements of pick-up-and-deliver in this addition to the Catan universe, that's appropriate! This is an extension to a previous expansion for Catan, Explorers & Pirates. When it was first released, Catan: Explorers & Pirates was for 2-4 players only. But not any more! Thanks to this extension, you can now invite a fifth or sixth player to join the yo-ho pirate's life for thee!Explorers & Pirates introduced a whole array of features that drive Catan in a whole different direction. (Or should that be 'sail'?) Five different Scenarios, to be precise, as well as three smaller missions! The best thing is you can mix and match these to suit your tastes. They work as brilliant alternatives as individual scenarios. But, if yo want an epic, sprawling game, you can throw everything into the mixing bowl. With everything on the table, the game opens up with a multitude of different strategies. And thanks to this 5-6 Player Extension, now nobody has to miss out on games night. This 5-6 Player Extension provides all the items needed to allow a fifth and sixth player to join in. It comes with green and brown player pieces. (These match the player colours for the other Catan expansions, too.) There's more harbour settlements, more crew members, settlers, and ships. Also included are more fish and spice to accommodate for player scaling. More sea and terrain hexes (including extra pirate lairs). More game pieces, more fun, more Catan! Please note that Catan: Explorers & Pirates 5-6 Player Extension is an add-on pack. It expands the gameplay for Catan. It is not a standalone product. To play this extension (as you might have guessed) you'll need to combine it with other Catan games. This cannot play without the base game of Catan itself. You'll also need the Catan: 5-6 Player Extension, and Catan: Explorers & Pirates.Player Count: 2-6 PlayersTime: 120-150 minutesAge: 12+

In the game, players are trying to be the first to have ten victory points, with points coming primarily from cities and settlements built on the game board. On a turn, the active player rolls dice and players receive resources based on the die roll and what they've built on the board. The active player can then trade with opponents and build roads, cities and settlements depending on the resources in hand and available space on the board. In this travel version of the game, the land spaces aren't individual hexes, but six pieces of material that can be rearranged in different ways to change up the game board. The player pieces and resource cards fit into drawers on the side of the game board, which folds into a trapezoid. Catan: Traveler Compact Edition includes a two-player variant using cards that allow one player to force a "trade" with the other. Catan Histories: Rise of the Inkas takes the Catan series in a different direction... To South America! Designers Klaus and Benjamin Teuber have retained the hand management and set collection aspects of Catan, but added in a 'decline' mechanism. In regular Catan, the game has a snowball effect, where players gain a constant influx of power. Rise of the Inkas, though, has deliberate peaks and troughs. There's coastline on one side of the modular map, but the other half is inland terrain. The same resources found in regular Catan are here to build roads, settlements and cities. There's also hexes that provide fish, cocoa and feathers. These are makeweight trade items, which you can swap with the supply (like the harbours in the base game). You're still building settlements where hexes meet, where die rolls earn you corresponding resources. The major change in Rise of the Inkas is how you win. There's no victory points race. Instead, the aim is to be the first to complete your third 'tribe'. You finish a tribe when you've built either four settlements, or two settlements and a city. Then, your tribe goes into 'decline'. Nature reclaims your settlements and you have to start a new network somewhere else on the board! Your previous roads get removed too, meaning your civilisation needs to 'rise' again. Other players can build roads and rediscover your 'lost' settlements. They can even rebuild over them, making the spot their own!Since there's no points system, the Longest Road and Largest Army cards provide other benefits. Because you'll go into decline at some point, you might not have this benefit for long - so use it wisely while you have it!Catan Histories: Rise of the Inkas is a standalone game. You do not need to own a copy of the Catan base game to play this. Player Count: 3-4 PlayersTime: 90 minutesAge: 12+
Oil is struck on Catan, letting engineers convert the precious resource into other goods and upgrade cities into metropolises — but burning it dirties the island, forcing settlers to weigh prosperity against catastrophe.
The new Explorers & Pirates expansion is based on the Catan base game rules but also contains a number of new game mechanisms. For example, ships are now equipped for expeditions and can be moved freely across the board. In the ships you transport settlers, crews, fish, or spices across the seas. Your goal is to build new outposts on the islands that are still undiscovered and to complete the Council of Catan's missions in the most skillful way possible. Your missions are varied. First, you must prevail against pirates who terrorize the coasts of Catan. Equip your ships with crews and search for the pirates' lairs. The Council of Catan rewards the bravest fighters with fame and gold.
Twelve helpful characters join the island of Catan, each with a unique special ability to help you build your settlements and frustrate your rivals. This scenario expansion adds new flavor and strategic options to your standard Catan game without increasing complexity.
An era of forced generosity descends on the island, rewarding settlers who help their lagging rivals — but cross the line and the guilds will make you pay. A mini-expansion that turns cooperation into a sharp-edged game of its own.
